Fire Prevention Week

This week is Fire Prevention Week. We had a fire drill today to practice what we would do incase of a real fire at school. We practiced stopping whatever we're doing and lining up. Then we walk quickly outside to our safe spot. Once we get there, we line up and are super quiet so we can hear any directions that are given. Once we hear the bell, we know it's safe to go in. Throughout the week we will be doing fun fire activities that will help us learn about fire safety. On Wednesday, we have some special visitors that will come and talk to us about fire prevention week! Tune in for more throughout the week!

Learning Letters continued...

Today we learned upper case and lower case Dd. The upper case D has a long stick down, lift up your pencil and draw a big curve. The lower case d is a circle, up and down (no need to lift your pencil off your paper). Those are some ways we work to remember how to correctly write the letters. Ask your child if they remember what sound Dd makes?

Friday we worked hard to catch up and learned two letters! We learned about the letters Bb and Cc. The upper case B has a straight stick and two curves. The lower case b has a straight stick and one curve. We really like letters like C because they are the same shape, just different sizes! The upper case C is a big curve and the lower case c is a small curve.

Learning Our Letters

We have been learning about our letters with long sticks and short sticks. An example of a letter with long sticks is the uppercase T (long stick down, long stick across). An example of a letter with short sticks is a lowercase v (short stick slanted, short stick slanted.

Next week we will be learning about our letters with circles and curves. “O” would be a letter with circles and “u” is a letter with curves.

Bus Safety

We have been learning about bus safety this week. This morning we had bus evacuation. Everyone did a great job! Ask your child if they remember the bus rules.... How far should we stay away from the bus (10 feet)? How should we talk on the bus (quiet)? Who is the boss on the bus (bus driver)?

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Today we came up with our classroom rules. First we brainstormed as many rules as we could. Then we combined ones that were similar. Here are the rules we came up with!

1.     Keep your whole body to yourself.

2.     Be nice to your friends.

3.       Raise your hand to talk.

4.      Listen to all your teachers.

5.      Share the toys and school supplies.

6.       Be a Bucket Filler!

Our first week

We have a very successful first week of Kindergarten!! Some things we learned were:
  • Everyone's names
  • How to quickly and quietly line up
  • Our school's umbrella rule
    • Be safe
    • Be friendly
  • Playground rules
  • How to get ready for whole group instruction
  • Our quiet signal ("Give me 5")
  • Bathroom signal and procedures of going to the bathroom (lock the door, flush, wash hands, use 2 paper towels)
  • How to punch our lunch numbers in
  • What makes a good listener
    • Eyes on the speaker
    • Sit criss cross applesauce with hands in your lap
    • Voice is quiet
    • Ears listening
    • Raise your hand if you have something to say

We talked about our hopes and dreams for this school year. Students drew a picture of what they hoped to achieve this year. I helped them write out what their hope or dream was and we posted our clouds in the hall.

It was a great first week and it will be a wonderful year!
